Every colored citizen should be made to feel that it is just as honorable, just as dignified to work with his hands in the field, in the shop, in the mine, as it is to preach the gospel, teach school, or write poetry. There is no disgrace to working in the kitchen, in a dining room, in a laundry, provided good service is rendered. The masses of all races live by the labor of their hands, and the Negro can be no exception to the rule. Just in preparation as we learn to dignify good labor in this generation, will we lay a foundation on which to rise and grow in what the world calls the higher and more important things in life, but without the foundation in proper habits and methods of labor it is impossible for any race to rise to a higher degree of efficiency.
